Update
There's been a veritable flourishing of news output in Berwick recently, with the launch of the Bridge and Berwick Town Council's production of a monthly newsletter.
Good stuff, but it's more surface than substance, and doesn't touch on the deeper issues around Berwick's future.
What's the Berwick Journal about?
In short, it's an attempt at placemaking via a devolved set of publications under the heading of the Berwick Journal.
Berwick lacks a strong presence in the written word, so there will be poetry. There will be writing about place. There will be news and reviews, and at each stage there will be opportunities for new and diverse voices to be part of the project.
Why bother?
There are lots of answers. Guerilla academia, for one. Resistance to top down place-making is another. A belief in our ability to shape the discourse rather than be shaped by it is a third. That's enough to be going on with.
